Product's Patented Acousto-Optic Technology Provides Cost-Effective Spectral Filtering

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 10 -- Novera Optics, a developer and manufacturer of photonic subsystems for communications equipment suppliers, announced at NFOEC 2001, which is taking place this week in Baltimore Maryland, that it has begun shipping its DGEP dynamic spectral equalizer.
DGEP equalizers are modular subsystems that provide gain flattening and tilt control in optical networks. The equalizers utilize patented all-fiber acousto-optical filter technology to accomplish dynamic optical filtering in the fiber, delivering high performance with low insertion loss. Network equipment providers can implement dynamic, automatic modification of the spectral gain characteristics of optical amplifiers to compensate for gain shape changes, gain tilt, and accumulated gain ripple. When inserted into the mid-stage of EDFA line amplifiers, DGEP equalizers compensate for spectral impairments in either the C or L bands.
"We are excited about the initial response from customers," said Kirk Flatow, president and CEO of Novera Optics. "Since we announced availability in March 2001, we have delivered evaluation units to customers both in the US and abroad. We are now working with these network equipment manufacturers to implement dynamic equalizers into their advanced transport systems. Novera's DGEP is the simplest and most elegant product to cost effectively address the requirement for spectral equalization in modern optical networks."
