HOUSTON, Feb. 26 -- A new optics technology is providing scientists with real-time microscopic images of the living retina, which may allow doctors to focus on earlier diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as diabetes and glaucoma. University of Houston researchers are using a technology called adaptive optics to peer inside the eyes of human subjects and -- for the first time -- to get clear, sharp images of features such as blood flow in the retina. Until now, clear images of the living retina were not possible because the eye's own structure interferes with the imaging process....Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaArticlesHigh-speed Raman Method Detects Micro- and NanoplasticsRaman spectroscopy is a useful tool for identifying microplastics — plastic particles smaller than 5 mm — although conventional point confocal Raman methods are limited to single-point...Photonics Spectra November 2023 IssueMetasurfaces Open Up Research Paths For Quantum State EngineeringScientists from the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light and the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, in cooperation with Sandia National Laboratories, have pioneered...Photonics Spectra November 2022 IssueRockley Signs Supply Agreement for Wrist-Worn Biomarker TechRockley Photonics has signed a supply agreement — outlining the customer’s initial purchase commitment for 2023 — and received the first commercial purchase order for its...Photonics.com 8/10/2022PhotonDelta and Research Partner Apply Integrated Photonics to AgrifoodDuring the Post Harvest Unlimited Conference held this week at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, PhotonDelta and OnePlanet Research Center launched the Integrated Photonics for Agrifood...Photonics.com 5/18/2023ProductsLaser Phase Lock SystemThe OE5000 Hi-Q Laser Phase Lock System from OEwaves Inc. allows the offset locking of two individual lasers separated in frequency by as much as 50 GHz.
