Photonic Crystal Fiber Laser Is Highly Polarized

A collaboration at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK, and at Crystal Fibre A/S in Birkerød, Denmark, has resulted in what the experimenters believe is the first photonic crystal fiber laser whose highly polarized output is due to its asymmetric microstructure. The laser produced 3.7 W with a degree of linear polarization in excess of 200:1. Figure 1.
