The EMP3 software package for 3-D finite-element time-domain electromagnetic simulations has been announced by Field Precision. Available in Windows and Linux versions for research and classroom use, it includes a mesh generator, an interactive graphical postprocessor, illustrated instruction manuals, and a library of examples and tutorials. Downloadable from the company’s Web site, the program offers setup methods for absorbing or reflecting boundaries and current drives with arbitrary variations in time and space. Among its applications are EMI analysis, simulation of ultrashort optical pulses, design of pulsed-power and -beam diagnostics, and the calculation of wake fields in structures.
