Customized Microscope Helps Track Cells

BERKELEY, Calif., Dec. 28 -- Researchers from the University of California at Berkeley using a customized atomic force microscope (AFM) have discovered new evidence for how the fibrous scaffolding within human cells responds to obstacles in its environment, a technique for tracking a cell's growth history which may one day allow scientists to track the pathways of spreading cancers, immune cells and other cells that move freely through the body.
