Photoluminescent Material Tested in Ottawa

OTTAWA, Nov. 1, 2006 -- A new fire safety system tested recently at an office tower in downtown Ottawa involved photoluminescent material (PLM) that glows in the dark, helping occupants safely evacuate a building without power or one filled with dense smoke. The research was conducted by the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), a federal organization, with three US photoluminescent manufacturers: Jalite USA, Jessup Manufacturing Co. and Prolink North America Inc.
