Johan Holm Honored by Danish Optical Society for PING Gratings

Johan Holm has received the DOPS prize from the Danish Optical Society for developing Ibsen Photonic's polarization-independent fused-silica telecom gratings. Ibsen Photonics is a Farum, Denmark-based maker of phase masks and transmission gratings for the telecom, sensing and laser markets. The DOPS prize is an annual award given to an individual whose contribution to the Danish optics field has been of "unique quality and importance." The award was presented to Holm for his work since 2000 in connection with the development and commercialization of Ibsen's PING gratings, used primarily in...Read full article

    Glossary
    photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
    polarization
Polarization refers to the orientation of oscillations in a transverse wave, such as light waves, radio waves, or other electromagnetic waves. In simpler terms, it describes the direction in which the electric field vector of a wave vibrates. Understanding polarization is important in various fields, including optics, telecommunications, and physics. Key points about polarization: Transverse waves: Polarization is a concept associated with transverse waves, where the oscillations occur...
    sensor
    1. A generic term for detector. 2. A complete optical/mechanical/electronic system that contains some form of radiation detector.
