The Light Brigade has released “Fiber Optic Connectors,” an addition to its “Staff Development” series of instructional DVDs. The menu-based videodisc addresses the discrete parts of connectors, including plugs, receptacles/adapters, ferrules/termini and alignment sleeves; optical and mechanical tolerances and their impact on optical performance; bonding, scribing, polishing, cleaning and visual inspection; and specialty connectors, including attenuators, terminators, loopback devices, and multifiber and military and aerospace varieties. The importance of yield and the costs of termination — including components, consumables and associated labor — are discussed. Quizzes are included for content review or testing.
