The book Introduction to Image Processing and Analysis establishes the programming involved in the image processing methods by employing skills in C compiler and in Windows and MacOS programming environments. It illustrates the workings of algorithms and discusses the effects of the methods on images and their appropriate applications. Sections address adjusting pixel values; convolution and other neighborhood operations; image processing in the Fourier domain; binary images, including thresholding and morphological processing; and global and feature measurements, and classification. morphological processing
A set of algorithms used to study the structural and spatial characteristics of objects in a digitized image for applications including feature extraction and image segmentation in machine vision and microscopy. The shape and size of objects in the image are manipulated using elementary patterns called structuring elements, and the desired information is obtained using binary operators such as erosion and dilation. Gray-scale images are treated as binary images in three-dimensional space.
