ATLANTA, Jan. 8, 2008 -- Unique polymers that change shape upon heating are being developed for biomedical applications such as opening blocked arteries, probing neurons in the brain and engineering a tougher spine. These so-called shape-memory polymers can be temporarily stretched or compressed into forms several times larger or smaller than their final shape.
