Eyeing the Biological Clock

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Aug. 18, 2008 – Our biological clock tells us when to eat, sleep, and when to wake up. Though we have evolved to coordinate our activities with the day/night cycle caused by the earth’s rotation, there is now evidence that we can reset our personal clocks through light manipulation. Biologists at the University of Virginia have discovered a switching mechanism in the eye that plays a key role in regulating the sleep/wake cycles in mammals.
