T-Ray Science Licenses MIT THz Patents

Vancouver-based TeraHertz radiation researcher T-Ray Science Inc. today announced it has signed an exclusive patent license agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., to produce spectroscopy and imaging systems that use dual-mode, pulsed and continuous terahertz (THz) waves. Noninvasive THz radiation lies between the infrared and microwave range of the electromagnetic spectrum. The new system is the first to integrate both pulsed and continuous wave spectroscopic analysis and imaging, allowing the user to use a pulsed THz radiation generation mode to quickly...Read full article

    Glossary
    continuous wave
Continuous wave (CW) refers to a type of signal or transmission where the signal is constant and does not vary with time. In various contexts, the term is used to describe continuous, uninterrupted oscillations or waves. Here are a few applications of the term in different fields: Electromagnetic waves: In radio communication and radar systems, a continuous wave signal is a steady oscillation of radio frequency (RF) energy. It does not involve modulation, which means the amplitude,...
    photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
    radiation
The emission and/or propagation of energy through space or through a medium in the form of either waves or corpuscular emission.

    terahertz
Terahertz (THz) refers to a unit of frequency in the electromagnetic spectrum, denoting waves with frequencies between 0.1 and 10 terahertz. One terahertz is equivalent to one trillion hertz, or cycles per second. The terahertz frequency range falls between the microwave and infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Key points about terahertz include: Frequency range: The terahertz range spans from approximately 0.1 terahertz (100 gigahertz) to 10 terahertz. This corresponds to...
