Within the central and eastern European regions, photonics research is strong in various countries, including the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine, according to Dr. Pavel Tománek, who heads the Laboratory of Optical Nanometrolgy at Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic.
