Linear Nanowires Kinked

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 22, 2009 – Taking nanomaterials to a new level of structural complexity, scientists have determined how to introduce kinks into arrow-straight nanowires, transforming them into zigzagging 2- and 3-D structures with correspondingly advanced functions. According to Bozhi Tian and Charles M. Lieber, Harvard University researchers, the technology could foster a new nanoscale approach to detecting electrical currents in cells and tissues.     nano
    An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale.
