Cerno Bioscience of Danbury, Conn., and Santa Clara, Calif.-based Agilent Technologies Inc. have partnered to market the former company’s MassWorks calibration software to users of the latter’s gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer ChemStation. The combination will enable end users to use their single-quadrupole instruments to identify unknown compounds with more accuracy and without additional specialized instruments, such as time-of-flight or Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometers.Read full article

    Glossary
    mass spectrometer
A device used to measure the masses and relative concentrations of atoms and molecules. It utilizes the Lorentz force generated by external magnetic field on a moving charged particle, in which the particles are deflected by the magnetic field according to their masses. Once deflected, the particles are detected and recorded electrically to provide a mass spectrum of the input beam of ions.
