The National Human Genome Research Institute, based in Bethesda, Md., has announced that it will establish a Center of Excellence in Genomic Science at California Institute of Technology in Pasadena and will support existing centers at the University of Washington in Seattle and at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., through grants totaling $54 million over five years. Among many efforts at the centers, researchers plan to utilize protein microarrays to analyze biological characteristics and aim to image all the genes that are important for vertebrate development.
