ULIS Invests €20M in New IR Sensor Facility

VEUREY-VOROIZE, France, Aug. 7, 2012 — On its tenth year anniversary, ULIS announced a €20 million investment in a new state-of-the-art facility to meet increasing market demands for infrared (IR) technology. Sales of uncooled IR cameras will grow from 320,000 units in 2011 to 1.1 million units in 2017, according to a Yole Developpement report. Figures also show that the market share for uncooled IR imagers for commercial applications will represent more than 80 percent of the total uncooled IR imaging market, with the slice for military applications shrinking from around 30 to 15 percent. For the first time, ULIS...Read full article

    photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
    thermography
Thermography is a technique that involves the use of an infrared imaging device, called a thermal camera or infrared camera, to detect and visualize the infrared radiation emitted by objects. This technology allows for the creation of thermographic images, also known as thermograms, where variations in temperature are represented by different colors or shades. The basic principles of thermography are as follows: Infrared radiation emission: All objects with a temperature above absolute zero...
