Peel-and-Stick Solar Cells Add More than Flexibility

STANFORD, Calif., Dec. 27, 2012 — Unlike their stiff, inflexible cousins, new peel-and-stick thin-film solar cells can be peeled off like Band-Aids and stuck to virtually any surface, from paper to windowpanes.     thin-film solar cell
    A solar cell that is lightweight and flexible because of its construction by vacuum deposition of a semiconductor material (e.g., gallium arsenide or cadmium sulfide) onto a thin metal or plastic substrate. It is used as a power source in spacecraft because of its light weight.
