Shasta Crystals to Research YAG Fibers

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 3, 2013 — Shasta Crystals has received a National Science Foundation Phase I grant to perform research into the feasibility of growing doped YAG fibers for improved high-power fiber laser performance. The $150,000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award, titled “Coilable Single Crystal Fibers of Doped YAG for High Power Laser Applications,” will be used to make a cladded flexible fiber with a core of dopant that will exhibit good waveguiding properties, said CEO Gisele Maxwell.
