IR Camera Detects Main Cause of Acid Rain

MADRID, March 5, 2013 — A new infrared camera that detects sulfur dioxide — a main cause of acid rain — and other pollutants could help scientists identify and control such emissions at an early stage, before significant damage is done. Sulfur dioxide is considered one of the most problematic contaminants, and it is particularly harmful in India, Japan and China; the latter, the greatest producer of SO2 worldwide, has regions in which all the rain that falls is acid rain.
