CO2 Laser Optics

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Sept. 12, 2013 — Laser Research Optics custom-manufactures CO2 laser optics in 9.3- to 10.6-µm wavelengths in sizes from ½- to 1-in. optical density (O.D.) and 0.070- to 0.12-in. thickness. The optics are suited for lasers operating at wavelengths that provide better performance in cutting plastic materials that are highly absorptive at a particular wavelength, such as Kapton and PET. Featuring laser-grade ZnSe, the optics have a 40-20 scratch-dig surface finish per MIL-PRF-13830 and 1/40-wave maximum flatness at 10.6 µm on two faces. Parallelism is 3 arcmin. Glossary
    cutting
The process of forming a lens to a given pattern, or of cutting a piece of glass along the line of scratch.
    optical density
A measure of the transmittance through an optical medium. Optical density equals the log to the base 10 of the reciprocal of the transmittance. where τλ is transmittance. In spectroscopy, optical density is the measure of absorbance, and is defined as the ratio of the intensity of light falling upon a material and the intensity transmitted. Abbreviation OD.
