Optical components provider Edmund Optics (EO) has added former Schott executive Volker Schmidt to Edmund Optics Europe, its European sales team, the company said Monday. Schmidt will represent EO to its customers in selected parts of Europe and will be responsible for many key accounts, the company said. Prior to joining EO, Schmidt worked for optical glassmakers Schott and Ohara GmbH (Deutschland), where he held various managerial positions in sales and key account management. He has a diploma degree in mechanical engineering and fine mechanics and an MBA, both from the University of Giessen. "Volker's extensive optics background, his established network in the optics community and his experiences will be a great addition to the European sales team," said Martin Weinacht, sales director key accounts Europe. "Not only will his experience give us more power in selling our catalog products, but it will also help us emphasize our manufacturing capabilities and customized product offerings, which are important pillars of our business."
