Leica Mapping Drones to Carry Headwall Hyperspectral Imagers

FITCHBURG, Mass., Oct. 29, 2014 — Headwall Photonics’ hyperspectral imaging sensors will be integrated into Leica Geosystems’ drone mapping systems under a new agreement between the two companies. Hyperspectral imaging allows collection of data on the material composition of objects in the field of view. For example, forests can be mapped by plant species, quarries can be mapped by mineral composition and farmland can be mapped by plant vitality. Headwall sensors are specialized for the visible, near-infrared and shortwave infrared spectra. Leica Geosystems, of Heerbrugg, Switzerland, provides...Read full article

    hyperspectral imaging
Hyperspectral imaging is an advanced imaging technique that captures and processes information from across the electromagnetic spectrum. Unlike traditional imaging systems that record only a few spectral bands (such as red, green, and blue in visible light), hyperspectral imaging collects data in numerous contiguous bands, covering a wide range of wavelengths. This extended spectral coverage enables detailed analysis and characterization of materials based on their spectral signatures. Key...
