deep-depletion CCD

A CCD device for sensing longer wavelengths, such as NIR and IR, that has a deeper depletion region than would be necessary for sensing in the visible wavelength range. Because the depth of charge generation increases with the increasing wavelength of incident light, a deep depletion region is necessary to prevent the charge from longer wavelengths from being generated below the depletion region.
