fluorescent screen

A flat plate of glass or other suitable material covered with a layer of a phosphor sensitive to x-rays. These screens are used directly to make x-rays visible for observation or photography, or they may be used as intensifying screens in contact with a photographic film. Films are only slightly sensitive to x-rays, but much more sensitive to the light emitted by a phosphor when excited by x-rays.
