green block

A porous ceramic substance that is ground to a given optical form and on which a polished plate of glass is sagged by heat application. It is capable of transmitting in a partial vacuum. The glass contacts the green block surface by the applied vacuum and gravitation, and the upper polished glass surface is used as an optical surface. Green block is generally used to produce aspheric surfaces of medium precision.
