image converter

An electron tube that employs electromagnetic radiation to produce a visual replica of an image produced on its cathode. Electrons ejected from the cathode by the incident radiation are accelerated to and focused upon a fluorescent phosphor screen, thus forming the visual replica. Image converters can be used in the infrared, ultraviolet and x-ray regions as well as in the visible. The snooperscope is an example of an infrared-sensitive image converter.
