superelastic collision

Observed phenomenon in laser pulses in which a large number of excited electrons are created and in which multiphoton processes have produced seed electrons, and excited neutral atoms are superelastic in that each electron has a high probability of de-exciting an atom and carrying away its quantum of excitation energy. This produces coupling between laser energy and electron energy, creating further ionization and excitation.
