photoconductive antenna

Photoconductive antenna (PCA) is a semiconductor element that generates or detects high-frequency electromagnetic signals. Compact PCAs based on gallium arsenide (GaAs) or indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) have become the most widely used sources and detectors for terahertz radiation. As transmitters, PCAs convert the output of near-infrared lasers to terahertz frequencies. As receivers, they achieve a high signal-to-noise ratio and help perform fast measurements for imaging and spectroscopy. Depending on the design, PCAs work for either pulsed or continuous-wave terahertz applications.
