induced pluripotent stem cells

Induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells are ordinary cells that are genetically reprogrammed to an embryonic stem cell-like state to allow the human cells to be used for therapeutic purposes. Investigators are considering the potential utility of iPS cells as a tool for drug development, modeling of disease and transplantation medicine. In addition, they can also be used to treat diabetes and neurological disorders and to create new blood free of cancer cells.
