fiber distributed data interface

A standard for fiber optic data transmission systems being developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and associated working groups that will make fiber optic components from manufacturers compatible with each other by specifying parameters such as data transmission rate (100 Mb/s and above), power supply requirements, packaging and components. The FDDI local area networks will support up to 500 stations in a ring topology with a circumference of up to 100 km and dual rings to provide redundancy in case of cable or system failure.
