magnetic rotation spectroscopy

Technique in which the polarization rotation of light, and its relationship to the magnetic field strength can be analyzed and related to various experimental parameters when passed through a paramagnetic gas. This technique is used to measure very low concentrations of reactive gas-phase radicals by placing a sample in a magnetic field and passing a polarized beam generated by a color-center laser through it. A variation in the magnetic field detects the presence of radicals.
