microchannel spatial light modulator: A device to modulate spatially a collimated coherent beam of light with input data in optical data processing. It uses a photocathode mounted on a microchannel plate, which amplifies an electron replica of an optical image projected onto the photocathode. The amplified image creates a spatially varying refractive index in an electro-optic crystal, which is used to modulate a laser beam output.
