microdensitometer

The fundamental tool of microdensitometry, the microdensitometer is an instrument used for the precise measurement of microscopic optical densities (i.e. optical absorption) by detection of faint spectral lines in transmission over a small area on a piece of exposed optical film or photographic material. Microdensitometers are standard when measuring the imperfections in optical thin film coatings, as well as the transmission properties of optical surfaces.
