negative ghost

A ghost image that has the reverse lightness relations of the original image. This phenomenon is a common optical illusion that takes place in the human visual system, following long exposures to an image, in which an afterimage appears to remain in one's vision even once the exposure to that original image has been terminated. A prime example of this effect can be seen when looking into a light source for several seconds, and observing a glowing image of that source that appears to drift in front of one's eye when turning away.
