The two new red 660-nm visible LEDs from Industrial Fiber Optics can be used with plastic optical fiber and are suited for security systems, electronic games, household appliances, digital audio systems and optical networks. The IF-E96 is a low-power device, and the IF-E97 is a super-bright LED optimized for long-distance applications. The company says that both mate easily with standard 1-mm fiber with a 2.2-mm OD jacket and that fiber termination is simple; no special tools or training are required.
