A spectrophotometer that includes a built-in light source, a full diode array spectrometer, a holder for 1-cm cuvettes and high-speed electronics is available from Ocean Optics Inc. Measuring just 3.5 × 4 in., the Chemusb2-VIS can be taken into the field. The system has no moving parts and can measure 2048 wavelengths simultaneously. Its USB interface powers the light source and attaches to the port of a desktop or notebook PC running Windows 98 or 2000. The device provides real-time, PC-based spectroscopy and captures full spectra from 390 to 900 nm in 25 ms.
