Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. has launched a femtosecond polarization mode dispersion (PMD) analyzer for high-speed, dispersion-compensated digital and analog long-haul networks. The FPMD-5600 is based on a fully polarimetric interferometry technique that uses an ASE broadband source to measure ultralow PMD values, including all Stokes parameters. The company says the device delivers accurate results and minimizes the effects of environmental changes, impact- or vibration-induced stresses and temperature variations. It offers a data acquisition time of 30 s and a total measurement time, including calculation, of 100 s. Applications include PMD measurement in components used for 40-Gb/s transmission rates, PMD characterization in narrow- and broadband components and live amplifier testing.
