Quasi-continuous-wave unmounted diode laser bars that emit in the 900-nm wavelength range have been released by the Semiconductor Div. of Coherent Inc., Photonics Group. The devices offer a 90% fill factor and a peak power of 100 W with a drive current of 115 A. The laser bars can be integrated into several solid-state laser-pumping applications, including direct-diode target illumination. Specifications include a pulse width of 1000 µs at 1% duty cycle, power conversion efficiency of 45%, spectral width of <3 nm (FWHM) and a beam divergence of <35° by 10° (FWHM).
