The RG40 linear encoders from Renishaw Inc. offer better than ±5-µm/m accuracy from a 40-µm pitch glass scale and a high-gain read head with side-lit filtering optics. The glass scale is available in standard lengths of 300, 500, 750 and 1000 mm. Clip mounts allow it to expand with thermal changes for use on such materials as metal, granite, ceramics and composites. The read head uses wide-angle filtering optics to scan and average reflections from 80 scale facets, filtering out signals that do not match the scale period.
