Santec Europe Ltd. has introduced an integrated photodetector suitable for applications in metro-core, metro-access and long-haul DWDM systems. The IPD-1 is a single-channel device with a 3.2-mm diameter. It integrates a coupler and a photodetector, reducing the number of components and fiber splices. Optical properties include low polarization- dependent loss, low backreflection and high sensitivity. Two models are available, one for the C- and L-bands and one covering 1310 and 1550 nm.
