NEC Corp. and California Eastern Laboratories (CEL) have introduced a miniature optical subassembly suitable for use in small-form-factor and small-form-pluggable transceiver modules. The subassembly includes a 3.8-mm-diameter 1310-nm Fabry Perot laser, a standard plug-in LC connector sleeve and a pluggable fiber-to-laser interface for fixed optical coupling. NEC says the integrated package eliminates optical alignment steps in the assembly process, and the unique fiber stub design prevents backreflection for stable and reliable transmission.
