An instrument for optical jitter measurement designed to accelerate the design and production of 10-Gb/s SONET/SDH equipment for core metro networks is available to telecom equipment manufacturers. From Tektronix Inc., the OTS9200 module is a fully digital tool based on the company's Digital Phase Analysis technology. The device performs both jitter generation and tolerance tests, and the digital approach eliminates the need for the range switching and phase-locked-loop settling time required by analog alternatives. The test results verify a product's compliance with global communications standards from OC-3/STM-1 to OC-192/STM-64.
