Ircon Inc.'s preform inspection system is designed for manufacturing fiber optic filaments. It includes the company's Stinger thermal imaging camera with 320 x 240 focal plane array, preform software and an optional analog output module. Thermal images of the fiber optic preform are captured in real time at speeds of up to 60 fps. The data is sent to the software for storage and for playback at different speeds, or it can be used for online process control. The system records temperature and dimensional data, eliminating the need for separate instruments. The user-configurable software allows minimum, maximum and average temperature data to be displayed numerically for each area of interest. It also offers tools for drawing, zooming, printing and changing color palettes.
