IPG Photonics Corp. has introduced the YLR series of 700-W, 1085-nm ytterbium fiber lasers. These compact lasers provide CW output, high wall plug efficiency, low maintenance and cooler-free operation for materials processing applications such as cutting, drilling and welding. The single-mode fiber-based beam delivery system offers a beam quality of <1.4 mm * mrad. The beam cone has an aperture angle of no more than 5° at a focal distance of 150 mm, and the effective lens diameter is <25 mm for workpiece accessibility. The lasers can be used with metals and some nonmetallic materials.
