The ZX-1 Array Plus zoom interferometer from Direct Optical Research Co. (DORC) is designed to measure the end-face geometry of single-ferrule, multifiber connectors, including MT, Mini-MT, MT-RJ, MPO, MPX and MTP, as well as single-fiber PC and APC connectors, ferrules and ferrule blanks. The interferometer provides automated measurements of radi-us, apex offset, fiber height, angle, key error and fiber/ferrule surface roughness using Windows-based software. It incorporates a patented calibration technique for absolute angle measurement of both nominally straight and angled array multifiber connectors. The noncontact measurements are performed in approximately 16 s per section for multifiber connectors and <1 s for single-fiber connectors.
