General Photonics Corp. designed its in-line polarimeter for polarization-mode-dispersion compensation and measurement, and polarization stabilization, division multiplexing, analysis and monitoring. The PolaDetect produces insertion loss of 0.8 dB typical, 1.2 dB maximum, and return loss of 50 dB typical, 40 dB minimum. Wavelength-dependent loss is 0.1 dB across the C-band. Optical power sensitivity and maximum optical input are 5 µW and 5 mW, respectively. The device contains no moving parts and operates without interrupting data traffic. It integrates into polarization- monitoring and -stabilization modules and into polarization-characterization instruments. It is available with a preamplification board, feedback control, a computer interface and a calibration matrix.
