Version 3.3 of Optical Research Associates' LightTools illumination design and analysis software offers a 3-D textures function that allows the creation of repetitive texture patterns, such as bumps or grooves, and is suitable for modeling the scattering surfaces of backlit LCDs. It also features an Applications Programming Interface that enables the generation of macros in software packages that support Microsoft COM technology and allows third-party software to share and manipulate data. The JumpStart library of macros provides existing routines for easier creation and analysis of systems. The new version's LumViewer displays 3-D illuminance charts that can be rotated, zoomed and panned to provide access to qualitative and quantitative views of data.
