Coherent Inc. has expanded its line of Q-switched CO2 lasers to include the GEM-Q3000, a high-repetition- rate CO2 laser that produces pulses at 9.25 µm with 15 kW of peak power. The pulse widths are controllable to less than 150 ns FWHM, and peak energies to greater than 3000 µJ. Combined with its rugged, sealed package, this laser is particularly suitable for applications such as printed circuit board microvia drilling, because it processes precisely and without residue. It also enables increased throughput and yield in drilling and micromachining applications, such as flex-circuit machining and specialty minerals processing.
