Fiber Optic Center Inc. has introduced Optical Gel LS-3252, manufactured by Lightspan. The soft encapsulation material protects sensitive photonics and flat panel display assemblies from mechanical and thermal shock, dust and moisture. It is optically clear from the near-UV to the near-IR and has a refractive index of 1.52, suitable for matching to BK 7 glass and acrylic plastics. Packaged in self-mixing/dispensing cartridges, the gel features an 8-h pot life. It cures in 24 h at room temperature without UV or high-temperature exposure. LS-3252 has service temperatures from -40 to 200 °C, or up to 260 °C for 1- to 2-min soldering operations.
